Empower Students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) Through Tailored Support
A well-established secondary school in London is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to provide specialist support to students with physical disabilities, mobility challenges, and communication needs. The ideal candidate will work closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to ensure students can access learning through assistive technology, AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication), and adaptive mobility aids.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement mobility support programs, assisting students with physiotherapy exercises, adaptive equipment, and personal care needs to promote independence.
- Use Assistive Technology & AAC tools to enhance communication and engagement for students with speech and language difficulties.
- Support students' access to core subjects (Reading, Writing, Maths), using differentiated teaching strategies and inclusive learning techniques.
- Work collaboratively with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech therapists to provide targeted interventions.
- Assist students in navigating the school environment, including classroom transitions, PE sessions, and extracurricular activities.
- Facilitate learning through Makaton & British Sign Language (BSL) where required, ensuring all students can fully participate.
Candidate Requirements:
- A Level 3 Award in Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools (STLS) or equivalent qualification.
- A Specialist SEN Diploma or Certificate (desirable).
- Training in Makaton & British Sign Language (BSL) (preferred).
- Familiarity with Assistive Technology & AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) to support non-verbal or speech-impaired students.
- Experience working with students with physical disabilities and mobility needs, implementing physiotherapy and motor skills development exercises.
- A commitment to inclusive education, with the patience and empathy to support students' social, emotional, and academic progress.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills, working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and therapists.
