Smart Education is currently recruiting for a full-time Qualified English Teacher to join a specialist school in Warwickshire, a permanent role catering to students aged 6-19 years old with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and passionate individual to make a significant impact in a supportive and engaging educational environment.

Role and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering English lessons to small groups in a specialised base designed to support students’ academic and personal development. This role requires an individual with strong relationship-building skills, resilience, and the ability to communicate confidently with vulnerable learners.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning and delivering creative and target-based English lessons tailored to individual student needs.

  • Advocating outdoor learning and incorporating it into lesson plans.

  • Developing and implementing Schemes of Work aligned with students’ autism manifestations.

  • Managing behaviour effectively through resolution management and developmental reflection.

  • Tracking and reporting student progress using assessment software.

  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary professionals, parents, and carers.

  • Contributing to students’ Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and personal development.

  • Participating in departmental meetings, Inset days, and professional development activities.

  • Ensuring compliance with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) guidelines.

  • Embedding British values and fostering students' spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development.

Essential Requirements
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with children with ASC.

  • Strong understanding of behaviour management strategies, with a focus on resolution techniques.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a range of professionals and parents/carers.

  • Passion for outdoor and experiential learning.

  • Practical knowledge of safeguarding and child protection policies.

Desirable Skills & Qualifications
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in Primary, Secondary, or Special Education.

  • Team Teach qualification or knowledge of safe student handling.

  • First Aid certification.

  • Autism Level 1 & 2 training.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment considering students’ sensory needs.

  • Contributing to the school’s ethos and participating in local community activities.

  • Supporting staff meetings, assessments, and reporting processes.

  • Upholding health and safety regulations within the school environment.
