We are looking for a Design Manager to join a contractor based near Southampton to join their growing pre-construction team.

The company works across the Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire, Dorset patch and has a highly successful and work on a range of schemes in the education, commercial, retail and industrial marketplaces and more recently have successfully been awarded the opportunity to to work on some of the latest framework opportunities for local government and local authorities as well as the larger strategic 5 year agreements as well as working on repeat business opportunities for a range of established clients.

Typical projects range from £5 to £25 million in value on both 2 stage negotiated and competitive single stage bids.

The role you will undertake is to work on both bids and tenders all the way through to information management on the live schemes so you will have the unique insight to be able to take the scheme from tender all the way through to the build phase and finally client handover.

Precon duties will include working with bid team, estimating teams, building services and design managers to create and submit best bid possible. This is based on forensic analysis of the design process of each package, working with internal teams as well as specialist consultants and engineers as well as the supply chain to overcome issues and be able to come up with innovative ideas and suggestions for the design elements of the scheme. You will have the opportunity to work with several experienced individuals who can help train and develop your skills.

Upon contract award you will be responsible for drawings and information control with site teams, subcontractors and client. You will be expected to spend time on site working with the teams to ensure compliance with BIM and CDM requirements and work with commercial teams on RFI's, variations etc. and take responsibility for the design elements of the project as it progresses through the programme.

They are currently working on several new bids, 2nd stage opportunities as well as 3 live projects in the Dorset/Hampshire area - all of which you can get involved with.

This is a fantastic opportunity to get involved in every aspect of a construction business and life cycle of a project and the contractor have an excellent training programme and this role would suit someone looking to move up into the role from a trainee or assistant level or an experienced co-ordinator with a view to gaining both experience and promotion in the medium term.
