Emotional Support Teaching Assistant - School in Totton

Are you passionate about supporting children and young adults with Special Educational Needs (SEN)? Do you have a nurturing, empathetic nature and a desire to help students engage emotionally and academically? If so, this rewarding role could be the perfect fit for you!

We are offering an exciting opportunity for an Emotional Support Teaching Assistant at a vibrant and inclusive school in Totton. This role is ideal for someone who is eager to provide emotional support and encouragement to students as they engage with their learning and develop key skills. Full training and support will be provided as you build your career in education.

We are open to receiving CVs from all applicants with transferable skills from roles such as care, social work, nursery practitioners, teaching assistants, or any other relevant positions. If you have a background in supporting others, we would love to hear from you!

About the Role: As an Emotional Support Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students across the school who have a range of SEN, offering tailored support to help them stay emotionally engaged in their learning. You will collaborate with the school’s Inclusion and Learning Support teams to provide 1:1 and small group interventions, helping students feel supported and confident in the classroom.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students aged 11-16, particularly those who may need extra help with emotional engagement and learning.
  • Provide 1:1 emotional support and small group interventions to build confidence and resilience in students.
  • Help students stay emotionally engaged in lessons, offering support during challenging or distracting moments.
  • Work closely with teachers to ensure students are able to participate fully in the classroom and progress in their learning.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students, encouraging their emotional and academic development.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and support staff to ensure students’ individual needs are met.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to enhance your skills in supporting students’ emotional and educational well-being.

The Ideal Candidate: We are looking for someone who is compassionate, patient, and committed to helping students succeed emotionally and academically. While prior experience in a school setting is helpful, it is not required. • Able to form strong, supportive relationships with students and colleagues.
