Freight Operations and Customs Supervisor

Our client are looking for a Supervisor to join their Customs Clearance team based on out the docks in Southampton.

As Team Leader, you'll be tasked in managing their global e-Commerce customer.

Job type: Permanent

Hours: Monday to Friday (Flexibility on start and finish times at discretion of management)

Requirements/day-to-day:

  • Ensuring the high volume of customs entries are processed in a timely and accurate manner by the appointed customs broker
  • Claiming containers using Port systems (EU)
  • Checking customs entry prep for accuracy upon receipt.
  • Validating product tariff classifications and ensuring the customers comply with Dutch Customs/EU Valuation Rulings.
  • Supporting customers to resolve any errors or omissions with customs documentation, when they occur.
  • The ability to build and sustain strong working relationships with customer in EU/China/USA offices and our supplier in The Netherlands.
  • Possessing good negotiation skills and the attention to detail are essential for this role.

  • Manage the process by being naturally proactive and taking ownership to deliver solutions.
  • Utilise data metrics and reports to monitor the performance of the team, identify areas for improvement, both in terms of staff and process and seek ways to implement positive change in conjunction with the Customs Brokerage Manager.
  • Possessing the ability and gravitas to deputise for the Customs Brokerage Manager in their absence
  • Knowledge of seaport operations processes including FCL and LCL unpack (Desirable)
  • Support the Finance Team to ensure processed jobs are invoiced in a timely and accurate manner
  • Managing team of 4
