Component Development Engineer - Fibre Optics

My client are currently recruiting for a Component Development Engineer to join their R&D Product Development team. This role is pivotal in driving the optical development of next-generation fibre optic and fibre laser products through the full product development lifecycle. The successful candidate will have a hands-on approach and ideally experience in a laser technology or optics environment.



Day-to-day of the role:

  • Develop innovative fibre laser components as part of the product development team in conjunction with technology development and manufacturing groups.
  • Design, develop, and qualify optical components and the processes required to achieve this.
  • Support components and build processes through all product life stages, from prototype lab demonstrators to pre-production and production builds.
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary project team to ensure successful new product launches.
  • Manage project risks and report on project progress to wider teams.
  • Support the verification and validation of new components before introduction into manufacturing.


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of experience in a laser technology, optics, or similar hi-tech product development environment (applicants with less work experience will also be considered).
  • Knowledge of product requirements, design, qualification, or process development.
  • Experience in cross-functional project teams delivering new products into a manufacturing environment.
  • Practical experience of optical fibres and processing.
  • Knowledge of cleanroom working environment and disciplines.
  • Ability to critically analyse and interpret data.
  • Knowledge of the full product lifecycle from concept to production.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Physics, Engineering, Photonics, Materials, or a related subject area.
