Chief Marine Engineer Description:

  • Maintain a comprehensive list of critical equipment, establishing maintenance schedules to minimise downtime, focusing on diesel engines, propulsion systems, and navigational equipment.
  • Liaise with onboard senior staff and logistics to ensure adequate safety and operational spare parts.
  • Develop a preventive maintenance programme to shift from scheduled to condition-based maintenance, reducing unplanned repairs.
  • Monitor planned maintenance execution and collaborate with Ship Managers to ensure maintenance objectives are met.
  • Identify external support for equipment upgrades and troubleshooting, ensuring compliance with OEM standards.
  • Assist in preparing refit specifications and cover for Ship Manager duties as required.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Ensure health and safety compliance and contribute to environmental objectives.
  • Support fleet efficiency and optimise operational costs.
  • Uphold quality standards and compliance with legal obligations.
  • Collaborate with the Technical Operations Manager on asset lifecycle strategies.

  • Ability to manage contractor performance and drive operational improvements.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and team leadership skills.
