Our client is an R&D-driven organisation in the business of designing and developing energy generation and hybrid electric drive systems. The company has won a handful of technology innovation awards in the past 3-5 years and now have several new and innovative, leading edge R&D projects underway.
They need an enthusiastic and passionate Mechanical Design Engineering Graduate to join their highly talented team. The position is available for immediate start and offers competitive compensation and benefits for the right candidate.
Role Description
- Work closely with engineering staff to help produce mechanical designs including drive trains, electric motor assemblies, mounting hardware, electronics housings, test equipment and production jigs, fixtures and tooling.
- Use CAD design tools such as SolidWorks to produce engineering information, such as 3D models, assembly drawings and detailed manufacturing drawings.
- Apply geometric tolerances and dimensions to create detailed manufacturing information.
- Perform simulation, analysis and hand calculations to verify engineering designs.
- Liaise with the production and quality teams to take products into full-scale production.
- Prepare technical information to support procurement activities.
- Maintain and update engineering drawings and documentation.
- Assist with improvement of quality control, yield and quality assurance.
- Contribute to hazard analysis and risk assessment process improvement.
- Occasional travel may be required.
The ideal candidate will have the following skills / experience:
- Qualified to degree level in Mechanical Engineering or demonstrate equivalent experience.
A knowledge of product development in an industrial/automotive/marine setting.
A good understanding of 3D CAD/CAM design. Ideally using SolidWorks, but any mainstream 3D CAD package experience is acceptable.
Design calculations from engineering fundamentals. Some exposure to stress analysis (FEA) would be beneficial but is not essential.
A passion for automotive or marine industry / equipment.
A good understanding of manufacturing techniques including injection moulding, machining, sheet metal fabrication and rapid prototyping.
Production engineering including generation of Bills of Materials, routings, assembly and installation instructions and establishing manufacturing/assembly.
