Job Description

Opening summer 2024, our new Hamberley Neurocare home in Southampton will provide rehabilitation, recovery, and residential care for people living with complex neurological conditions.

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and innovative Occupational Therapist to be part of a specialist interdisciplinary team providing neurorehabilitation to adults with neurological conditions. Our team will include a consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine, neuropsychologist, neuro physiotherapist, neuro occupational therapist, speech and language therapist and dietician. A wellbeing and lifestyle coach works alongside the therapy team and the nursing team.

Our service delivers a person-centred rehabilitation approach to adults with physical and cognitive changes following an acquired brain injury, cerebrovascular event or spinal cord injury to maximise independence, functional skills to facilitate a safe discharge. We also have our complex, neurogenerative or long-term slow rehabilitation pathways.

What you'll be doing:

  • In liaison with the Therapy Lead, be responsible for the delivery of Occupational Therapy services to all Residents and clients.
  • provide leadership in all aspects of Occupational Therapy in accordance with the Codes of Practice of the College of Occupational Therapy.
  • provide ongoing monitoring, support and assessment of residents’ physical and psychological needs.
  • maintain concise records and provide reports as necessary for each resident’s case review.
  • undertake assessments of daily living skills to identify level of functional ability, risks and level of support needed.
  • To liaise with appropriate outside organisations for equipment provision e.g. wheelchair services and ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of all Occupational Therapy equipment.
  • Promote personal and social skills and leisure activities for all residents and liaise with relatives and carers with empathy giving information, support and advice whenever and as often as required.

Could you be part of our team?

We are seeking someone experienced at delivering neuro rehabilitation, and with strong leadership skills to shape and develop this new service. You will work closely with the Therapy Manager and clinical lead on side. You will be expected to manage a case load, complete comprehensive assessment of need, develop goal lead personalised treatment plans, attend review meetings, write reports and complete outcome measures.

You will be/have

  • A qualified Occupational Therapist with HCPC registration.
  • Two years’ experience working as an Occupational Therapist
  • Previous experience working within a neuro environment .
  • Commitment to make a real difference to the lives of our patients.
  • Excellent communications skills, a great attitude to teamwork and a desire to lead on patient care.
  • Flexible to work shifts.

As a precondition of employment for this role, you must be eligible and authorised to work in the United Kingdom.
