Introduction:

Our client is a leading designer and manufacturer of fibre lasers for use in cutting, welding, and marking applications in a wide range of industries including medical, e-mobility and consumer electronics. Due to continued growth and opportunities for continuous development, they are looking for a Fibre Process Engineer to join their team in Southampton. You will work with pioneers in the market, have continuous support from your team and be part of a business where everyone is valued and respected.

The company are introducing key new products at pace and this role is critical to the success of these implementations and growth plans.

If you have a background in Fibre Optics / Lasers this would be an advantage, however, we are keen to speak to Engineers who have worked in similar roles and are keen to enter a new journey of growth and learning within the Optical Fibre world.

Job Description:

The Fibre Process Engineers role will be involved in developing, monitoring, and controlling extremely high-spec Optical Fibre Fabrication processes, used in high-end industrial fibre laser systems supplied to premium brand customers in diverse global markets.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Development of novel and enhanced speciality Fibre Fabrication processes and products customised for use in high-performance industrial Fibre Lasers.
  • Hands-on fabrication of R&D / Prototype Optical Fibre utilising their dedicated optical fibre manufacturing facility and state-of-the-art machinery.
  • Transfer of new Fibre products and processes into production.
  • Participation in business-critical Fibre Laser technology and NPI projects.
  • Diagnosing and resolving machine and process faults.
  • Commissioning new Fibre manufacturing equipment & instrumentation.

Ideal Skills & Experience:

  • Essential- 2+ years hands-on Process Engineering experience in a high-tech / high-precision industry. This could be within one or more of the following roles: Production Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, Industrial Engineer, Process Development Engineer, Development Engineer, Process Technologist.
  • Desirable- 2+ years Process Engineering experience in Fibre Optics, Lasers or Photonics fields within industry or a research organisation.
  • Qualifications- BSc or higher in either Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or closely related discipline. Engineering Apprenticeships may also be considered.
  • Good team player, excellent communication, methodical and analytical skills.
  • Keen to learn, eager to succeed, and possess a data-driven approach.

Salary / Hours / Benefits:

  • £36,000 - £45,000 per annum + benefits
