If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a Learning Support Assistant in secondary schools across Southampton.



About the Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing tailored support to students with a range of learning needs. Working closely with teachers and the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), you will help create an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing one-to-one or small group support for students with special educational needs or learning challenges.
  • Supporting classroom activities to ensure all students can access the curriculum.
  • Assisting with the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and fostering student's confidence and independence.
  • Collaborating with teachers and other staff to monitor and assess student progress.


About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is patient, empathetic, and has a genuine interest in supporting young people.
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Works well as part of a team but can also use initiative.
  • Is organised and adaptable in a fast-paced school environment.

Desirable qualifications and experience:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people, especially in an educational setting.
  • Knowledge of SEN strategies or relevant qualifications, such as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant certificate.
  • A good standard of literacy and numeracy (GCSEs or equivalent in English and Maths).
