Test Engineer - Salary £37,511 to 44,130 (dependent on experience) - Hybrid Working

Join our dynamic Technology team

This role is based within the Core Data Services Platform Team, part of Data Derivation. This is an Agile scrum team comprised of 3 sub-teams, each with a focus on different types of spatial data transformations, and each with a strong mix of developers & testers. Ordnance Survey has a testing community of 70+ test professionals that support each other with regular sessions on test related topics, tools, and techniques - be a part of it!

About the role

  • Implement automated tests using our existing test frameworks, and extend these frameworks as necessary
  • Validate data quality using big data testing tools
  • Analyse data transformations in order to establish the best way to test key business requirements
  • Contribute testing acumen into agile team ceremonies such as sprint planning, retrospectives, and daily standups
  • Communicate software risks & test outcomes with the team, team lead, project manager & test lead
  • Support the Ordnance Survey Testing Community, with common standards such as metrics and use of test tools
  • Here is a snapshot of the technologies that we use
  • Scala, Apache Spark, Databricks, Apache Parquet, YAML, Azure Cloud Platform, Azure DevOps (Test plans, Backlogs, Pipelines), GIT, GeoJSON
  • What we're looking for
  • Highly skilled in creating, maintaining and peer reviewing test automation code, preferably in Scala
  • Previous working experience of back-end testing and/or data testing
  • Excellent knowledge and skills in software testing & industry best practices
  • Working experience with Agile Scrum, collaborating with the team for backlog refinement and ability to estimate testing activities for sprint planning
  • Knowledge of CI/CD practices, and how they relate to test
  • Experienced with the management of defects, identifying, debugging, and working with the team to resolve them.

Location: We embrace a hybrid working model at OS and understand there is no one size fits all in relation to how we work. We have a fantastic HQ in Southampton, Hampshire where you will be required to be in the office for approximately 8 days of the year for various team workshops, with the remaining time being a personal choice as to whether you work from home or spend more time at OSHQ.

Security: OS conducts DBS background checks for all joiners and some of our roles require additional security clearance, including to SC or DV level in some cases. We will tell candidates at the appropriate time during the recruitment process if additional clearance will be required for this role.
