We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Special School Assistants to work on a flexible, day-to-day supply basis across a variety of SEN schools in Southampton. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a rewarding environment, supporting children with a range of needs, including Autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, physical disabilities, and emotional and behavioural needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide classroom support to students with special educational needs, under the guidance of the class teacher.
  • Assist with personal care, physical support, and behaviour management when required.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
  • Help with individual and small group work, ensuring each child is engaged and encouraged.
  • Adapt learning materials and activities to suit the individual needs of the students.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and parents to ensure the best outcomes for the students.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all students at all times.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience working with children with SEN (in a school or care setting) is highly desirable.
  • A caring, patient, and understanding approach with a genuine passion for helping children with special needs.
  • Ability to adapt to new environments and work on short notice.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to assist with personal care tasks if required.
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to apply for one).
