Food Technology Teacher
Prospero Teaching is currently seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Food Technology Teacher to join an SEMH School based in Southampton. This long-term contract position has the potential to become permanent from September 2025.
We are looking for someone with excellent subject knowledge, effective classroom management, and a drive to support SEN pupils, particularly those with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs and ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder).
The school provides a quality educational experience for students who have or are experiencing difficulties in a mainstream setting due to medical, social, emotional, or behavioral needs. The school supports young people from Years 1-11, helping them develop strategies to improve their resilience and confidence through a personalized curriculum, delivered by dedicated, experienced, and qualified staff.
We are seeking a dedicated teacher with a specialism in Food. The ideal candidate will be suitably qualified, enthusiastic, and inspirational, with the ability to work in a team. They will be passionate about the subject and demonstrate flair while maintaining the highest standards. An ability to establish and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with students is essential.
The successful candidate will:
- Inspire disengaged students and help them make accelerated progress from their starting points by delivering personalized and interesting lessons.
- Guide and support their classes to ensure the best outcomes.
- Establish good working relationships with students, acting as a role model and setting high expectations.
- Promote inclusion and acceptance of all.
- Provide pastoral care, support, and guidance as a form tutor.
- Establish and maintain an appropriate learning environment.
- Deliver and assess relevant KS4 qualifications.

Experience, Training, and Qualifications Needed:
- Previous experience teaching pupils with SEN, particularly SEMH and ASD, is highly desirable.
- A recognized teaching qualification (e.g., QTS, PGCE) is required.
- Excellent subject knowledge and the ability to deliver KS4 Food Technology qualifications.
- Effective classroom management skills and the ability to engage with students who require tailored support.
To be eligible to work as a Food Technology Teacher through Prospero Teaching, you must:
- Hold the right to work in the UK.
- Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application.
- Provide two professional child-related references.
