Graduate Town and Rural Planner

My client, a well-established and highly regarded firm of chartered surveyors, planners, and property consultants, is seeking a Graduate Town & Rural Planner to join their team in Rayleigh. Specialising in rural planning, the company has a strong reputation for providing expert advice to farmers, landowners, corporate bodies, and charities. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate looking to develop their career in rural and town planning while working on a diverse range of projects.
About the Role:
As a Graduate Planner, you will assist the planning team in delivering expert advice and creative solutions for a variety of rural and town planning projects. The role provides the opportunity to gain valuable experience across a range of sectors, including agricultural development, rural diversification, and rural business growth. The company is also supportive of candidates who need to complete an RTPi accredited Master's degree to become chartered.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation of planning applications, appeals, and site appraisals for a range of rural and town projects.
- Provide planning advice to clients on development opportunities in both rural and urban contexts.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external consultants to manage planning projects and ensure successful delivery.
- Contribute to the preparation of local plan representations and other planning policy documents.
- Help clients navigate the planning process, identifying creative solutions to planning challenges.
- Manage your own workload, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently while working as part of a larger team.
Ideal Candidate:
- A recent graduate with a keen interest in town and rural planning.
- Ideally, you will have 2+ years of relevant planning experience, whether from a placement or prior work experience in private practice or the public sector.
- You will be working towards or have obtained a RICS or RTPI accredited qualification.
- An imaginative problem-solver with a strong ability to communicate ideas clearly and accurately, both in writing and verbally.
- Ambitious, dynamic, and keen to take on increasing responsibility in your role.
Recent Projects Include:
- Conversion of rural buildings to a variety of uses, such as day nurseries, residential dwellings, wine processing plants, and farm shops.
- Agricultural developments including grain storage, cattle handling facilities, and horticultural glasshouses.
- Equestrian developments including stables, indoor and outdoor arenas, and gallops.
- Change of use of land for glamping sites, fisheries, and dog walking fields.
- Commercial buildings on rural business sites and agricultural workers' accommodation.
