We are recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced and driven Fleet and Plant - Transport Manager to join our Fleet and Plant team. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of our fleet operations, ensuring compliance, safety, and performance standards are upheld across plant machinery and vehicles.

The Role

As Transport Manager, you will lead the operational management of a diverse vehicle and plant fleet, ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements, including the Operator’s Licence. You’ll drive improvements in fleet performance, safety, and cost efficiency, supporting our contracts and operational teams across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure full compliance with PUWER, LOLER, and transport regulations, including OCRS and tachograph laws.
  • Manage vehicle allocation, hiring/off-hiring, inspections, and maintenance.
  • Oversee a robust Vehicle Husbandry Plan and plant tracking processes.
  • Coordinate training, toolbox talks, and ensure qualifications (Driver CPC, licenses) are up to date.
  • Deliver event planning, inspection schedules, and compliance tracking.
  • Lead incident resolution and accident management processes.
  • Monitor performance, budget efficiency, and escalate risks or opportunities.
  • Ensure high standards in branding, safety, and operational integrity.

  • Internally: Senior Management, Fleet Compliance, Finance, Maintenance, and Bid Teams.
  • Externally: Customers, Suppliers, and Regulatory Bodies.

What We’re Looking For

  • Qualifications: Full, clean UK Class 1 Driving Licence, CPC in National Road Haulage or Passenger Transport, and ideally IRTE/IMI membership.
  • Skills & Experience:
    • Operational experience in transport/logistics.
    • Strong understanding of vehicle maintenance and workshop environments.
    • Proficient in fleet management software and Microsoft Office.
    • Strong communication, problem-solving, and leadership abilities.
  • Personal Attributes:
    • Safety- and compliance-driven.
    • Analytical and cost-conscious.
    • Adaptable with the ability to make swift, effective decisions.
