This role is crucial for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and supporting both the purchase and sales ledgers. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple tasks efficiently, and ready to contribute positively to our client’s financial operations.
Day-to-day of the role:Purchase Ledger:
- Enter new suppliers into the system and post purchase PO and GL purchase invoices daily.
- Make timely payments to suppliers and ensure VAT is accurately posted onto the system.
- Check supplier statements and request copies if necessary.
- Handle currency purchases on our exchange platform and manage employee expenses, including verification and posting onto the system.
Sales Ledger:
- Enter new customers into the system after completing credit checks and ensure cash receipts are accurately posted and allocated daily.
- Raise sales invoices, manage credit notes, and monitor customer accounts, including placing stops and updating credit limits based on payment performance.
- Review outstanding debtors and actively engage in debt collection through email and phone communication.
- Reconcile customer and supplier payments to various currency bank accounts and manage month-end bank account rollovers.
Month End and Year End:
- Process accruals, prepayments, and permanent journals including payroll and depreciation.
- Maintain the Company’s Fixed Asset Register, recording any additions or disposals and calculating depreciation.
- Assist with year-end procedures including liaising with accountants for audit preparations and participating in the year-end stock count.
Other Responsibilities:
- Monitor exchange rates and update system rates as necessary.
- Prepare and submit VAT returns after verification with the Management Accountant and ensure timely repayments.
- Proven experience in an assistant accountant role or similar.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in accounting software and MS Office, especially Excel.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
