Risk and Opportunity Manager

About the Role

Our client is seeking a Risk and Opportunity Manager to play a pivotal role in supporting programme objectives by managing and mitigating risks, identifying opportunities, and ensuring alignment with the business's risk appetite. Reporting to the Head of Risk and Opportunity Management, you will partner with Programme Leads to develop and execute robust risk management strategies, helping to deliver high-profile projects successfully.

Key Accountabilities

  • Oversee and coordinate the management of risks, opportunities, and issues across allocated programmes and projects.
  • Present a comprehensive overview of the total risk landscape for specific projects and programmes.
  • Establish and integrate risk, opportunity, and issue management processes while maintaining consistent reporting standards.
  • Perform evaluations to identify, assess, and understand potential risks and threats.
  • Design and execute strategies to address identified risks and capitalize on opportunities.
  • Utilise advanced risk management techniques and tools for thorough monitoring and analysis.
  • Develop and maintain project and programme risk registers, ensuring all risks are tracked and managed effectively.
  • Conduct quantitative risk assessments, including programme and cost analysis, to guide decision-making.
  • Actively oversee the implementation of mitigation actions to ensure ongoing risk reduction.
  • Develop contingency plans to address potential crises or unexpected events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enable effective management of programme risk exposure, ensuring delivery remains aligned with objectives.
  • Take ownership of programme risk information and use insights to enhance processes, tools, and methodologies continuously.
  • Provide strategic and operational risk insights tailored to the unique requirements of each programme.
  • Ensure end-to-end risk profiles for assigned projects are current, comprehensive, and aligned with governance requirements.
  • Contribute to the business’s financial planning by offering risk-related insights on performance, delivery, and costs at the programme level.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with design authorities and technical standards across the company.

Experience:

  • A good understanding of Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) with proven hands-on experience in its application.
  • Evidence of proactive risk management, focusing on actively supporting Project Managers to drive project delivery through expert advice and guidance, rather than solely maintaining a risk register.
  • Familiarity with project delivery frameworks, ideally supported by a qualification such as APMQ or an equivalent credential.
  • Holding DV clearance is highly desirable.
  • Proven experience in risk management within highly regulated industries, such as nuclear or defence.
  • Expertise in risk analysis tools and methodologies, including quantitative risk assessment.
  • Strong understanding of project delivery frameworks (APMQ or equivalent qualification preferred).

Clearance:

  • SC clearance is essential; DV clearance is highly desirable.
  • Remote Role with occasional visits to site
