Reed Legal are recruiting for a dedicated Legal Accountant and Credit Controller to join a leading law firm. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in book-keeping, general accounting, and credit control, with a particular focus on legal accounting. The successful candidate will take responsibility for a variety of financial and administrative tasks to support the smooth running of our finance department.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Take overall responsibility for the office bank account.
  • Act as the firm’s credit controller, proactively chasing outstanding debts.
  • Perform banking functions, including bank reconciliations.
  • Manage petty cash, including monthly reconciliations.
  • Process client and office accounting transactions, including postings.
  • Assist in sending monies via electronic transfer using the Barclays.net Banking system.
  • Control designated client deposit accounts, including monthly reconciliations.
  • Process new clients, ensuring AML procedures are followed and dealing with source of funds issues. Advise fee earners on AML requirements and process them through First AML for electronic ID checking.
  • Manage the input of all Land Registry and Companies House fees.
  • Address any accounts queries as they arise.
  • Assist the credit controller on her days off to maintain momentum in cash collection.
  • Ensure the filing and administration of the accounts department, including filing of Money Laundering identification sheets, is kept up to date.
  • Supervise the printing of ledgers and photocopying in preparation for the annual SAR audit.
  • Assist with the annual professional indemnity insurance renewal process.
  • Assist the Finance Supervisor with any matters that arise to ensure the smooth running of the department.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Trained in the principles of book-keeping and general accounting.
  • Good knowledge of bank reconciliation and credit control.
  • Experience with legal accounting is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in using financial systems such as Barclays.net, Quill and First AML desirable
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
