What you can expect from the role:

As a pivotal part in our Tax Department, specifically within the Trusts, Probates division, you will provide non-contentious probate services via our trust corporation, aiming to expand through cross-referrals. You will collaborate with Private Client Partners, support the Head of Legal Services with regulatory matters under ICAEW accreditation, ensuring key deadlines, pricing transparency, and risk management.

The important work you will be doing include, but not limited to:

  • Meet with prospective clients to outline probate steps, initial requirements, and pricing.
  • Onboard clients, issue engagement letters, handle KYC, and act as main contact throughout probate.
  • Open files, follow procedures, and manage notifications to third parties.
  • Coordinate estate valuations and liaise with partners for shareholder valuations or cross-border documentation.
  • Prepare IHT400 forms, submit to HMRC, and calculate inheritance tax due, advising on payment options.
  • Draft affidavits, submit applications, and correspond with HMRC as needed.
  • Manage asset collection, prepare estate accounts, conduct beneficiary checks, and post Trustee Act Notices.
  • Arrange tax returns up to date of death and for estate administration period.
  • Support regulatory visits, instruct solicitors for legal deeds, and complete HMRC filings.
  • Administer estate funds, review costs, issue fee notes, and support team development.
  • Attend CPD courses, contribute to business development, and monitor budget and WIP.
