Accounts Semi-Senior

We are seeking an Accounts Semi-Senior to join a progressive accountancy firm based in St Albans. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to develop your skills in a supportive environment, with potential study support for ACCA qualification completion.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Undertake bookkeeping for clients both in-house and at client premises, including processing transactions and reconciling control accounts such as Bank, Sales ledger, Purchase ledger, and VAT.
  • Prepare and complete client VAT returns, ensuring all supporting schedules are produced and submissions are made by the deadline.
  • Generate monthly or quarterly management accounts to provide clients with relevant information, using accounting software or spreadsheets as per client specifications.
  • Prepare statutory accounts, year-end accounts, or rental accounts for various entities like limited companies, sole traders, and partnerships. This includes using our paperless system and CCH Central Software for account production.
  • Engage in ad-hoc bookkeeping and accounts work, either in-house or at client premises.
  • Record time spent on each client’s affairs accurately, ensuring work is completed within budget constraints.
  • Participate in team meetings and attend training sessions, including seminars and CPD updates as necessary.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in bookkeeping, completing VAT returns, and accounts preparation.
  • Commenced ACCA studies and reached part-qualified status, with a minimum of three years’ relevant experience or demonstrated technical knowledge.
  • Strong understanding of double-entry accounting.
  • Highly motivated self-starter capable of completing assignments within time constraints and deadlines.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to multitask and assist on ad hoc assignments.
  • Superior communication skills with proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Experience with CCH software package and cloud-based systems such as Quickbooks, Xero, and SAGE, along with apps like Dext and Hubdoc.
  • Good IT skills, including proficiency in accounting software programs, Microsoft Word, Excel, and other Windows-based systems.
