A leading contractor in the water sector is expanding its engineering team as part of a major AMP8 framework. They are looking for a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing team, working on a diverse programme of water and wastewater projects worth hundreds of millions.

The Role:
  • Lead the development of mechanical designs that are cost-effective, practical, and meet project specifications.

  • Ensure designs are optimised for construction and long-term performance.

  • Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.

  • Support the development and improvement of processes and design standards.

  • Contribute to proposals by providing technical input and cost estimates.

  • Ensure all designs comply with health, safety, and environmental requirements.

What We're Looking For:
  • Strong expertise in mechanical design for water and wastewater treatment projects.

  • Experience leading and mentoring engineering teams.

  • Chartered status or membership of a relevant professional institution.

  • A degree or master's in mechanical engineering or a related discipline.

  • A solid understanding of key mechanical systems used in water treatment.

  • Ability to produce efficient and cost-effective designs while considering installation and operational factors.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills.

  • Full UK driving licence.
