Purpose
The HR and Compliance Officer plays a key role in supporting both the Human Resources and Compliance functions at CCS. This hybrid role ensures that CCS meets its legal obligations, maintains a safe and supportive working environment, and upholds high standards of quality, integrity, and professionalism across all operations at our Cornwall depot.
The successful candidate will provide hands-on support across the employee lifecycle while also assisting with internal audits, policy management, and regulatory compliance. A key part of this role includes helping ensure that staff are equipped with the correct tools, PPE, and equipment for their roles and that these items are issued, tracked, maintained, and calibrated in line with relevant compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Human Resources (HR)
Support the recruitment process including advertising roles, scheduling interviews, and onboarding new employees.
Administer the HRIS (Healthbox HR), ensuring accurate and up-to-date records.
Act as a first point of contact for employee queries regarding policies, absence, benefits, and HR processes.
Coordinate training and development activity in conjunction with the Training Coordinator.
Maintain employee files and ensure data compliance with GDPR.
Assist in formal HR processes such as probation reviews, disciplinaries, and grievances by taking notes or drafting letters.
Support employee engagement initiatives and internal communications.
Compliance
Ensure all staff are issued with the appropriate tools, PPE, and equipment required for their role.
Maintain accurate records of asset allocation in Protean, including sign-out logs and replacement tracking.
Coordinate calibration schedules for tools and equipment, ensuring they remain within required tolerances and certification periods.
Liaise with suppliers and internal teams to manage equipment servicing, replacements, and procurement as needed.
Maintain accurate records for audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
Support implementation and monitoring of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and other relevant standards.
Assist in developing and updating internal policies and procedures to meet legal and regulatory requirements.
Coordinate incident reporting and follow-up actions for non-conformities or health and safety breaches.
Help prepare reports for management on key compliance metrics (e.g. training completion, audit outcomes).
Essential skills/experience
Prior experience in an HR or compliance-related role.
Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.
Understanding of employment law and data protection principles.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Confident using IT systems (e.g. HRIS, Microsoft Office, SharePoint).
Desirable
CIPD Level 3 or working towards qualification.
Exposure to quality systems or health and safety standards.
Experience working in construction, engineering, or a similar operational setting.
