Job Description:


We are currently looking to recruit a Sub Agent to join our Projects Team on a 6-month contract. The role involves overseeing the successful delivery of drainage improvement works and other highway-based projects.



Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage and supervise a wide range of highway-based projects on-site, ensuring work is delivered safely, on time, and within budget while maintaining HSEQ standards.
  • Oversee day-to-day site tasks and work closely with the project team.
  • Assist the Site Agent / Project Manager in developing construction programmes and methodology, engaging with key supply chain partners.
  • Monitor site progress against target programmes, reporting exceptions in outputs or delays.
  • Assist with the creation of Construction Phase Plans and ensure all safe systems of work are in place before commencement.
  • Manage on-site risks and ensure compliance with risk management processes.
  • Ensure all personnel (in-house and subcontractors) are fully trained and competent.
  • Work collaboratively with the commercial team, designers, and site teams to manage site changes.
  • Attend project meetings, providing updates and addressing any arising issues.
  • Maintain compliance with H&S, Quality, and Environmental requirements, ensuring performance is tracked and reported.
  • Maintain a customer-focused approach to mitigate complaints and ensure stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Oversee night operations when required and provide reports to the Site Agent / Project Manager.
  • Conduct site inductions, toolbox talks, and briefings for operatives.
  • Maintain adequate site records through photographs, diaries, and as-built drawings.
  • Act as a public-facing liaison, attending meetings and maintaining communication logs.
  • Work closely with the Site Team and Engineer to ensure project planning aligns with agreed programmes.
  • Willingness to work night shifts or travel for short periods as required.


Essential Skills & Qualifications:

  • SSSTS or SMSTS certification
  • CSCS (Supervisor Card)
  • Valid UK Driving Licence
  • Minimum 5 years' experience supervising Highway Improvement & Public Realm projects
  • NRSWA (New Roads and Street Works) Operative or Supervisor Accreditation (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety management and CDM regulations
  • Experience with proprietary planning software
  • Knowledge of quality & environmental standards for highway improvement work
  • Proven ability to manage and supervise staff, workforce, and subcontractors
  • Commercial awareness, with an understanding of budget and cost control
  • Excellent communication skills
