A leading Food Manufacturing business are seeking to appoint a Quality / Technical Manager who has skills and experience within Analytical Chemistry, to support the Technical team with sample analysis for raw materials, new and existing products, in-process products.
This role would suit an individual who has worked in Laboratory Management, Quality Management, Technical Management, or Analytical chemistry.
Duties of the role will include:
- Take responsibility for a wide range of analytical techniques, encompassing wet chemistry, such as: ph measurement, gravimetric analysis, titration, volumetric measurements.
- Work on Validation and Method Development across various analytical instruments (Mass Spectrometry, UV-Vis, Atomic Absorption, Gas chromatography-flame ionization detection (GC-FID), Gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS), HPLC.
- Maintain rigorous QA/QC standards in line with safety protocols, using previous experience of manufacturing environments and GMP/GLP/ISO requirements.
- Supervise and support the Lab team, provide training and development where required.
- Oversee the wet chemistry and the analytical chemistry testing regime, constantly looking to review and improve methods and techniques.
- Manage the resources in the Lab, supervise internal testing and the outsourcing of testing to third parties.
- Support the business acting as the technical link between the Laboratory and the customers, dealing effectively with customer queries and customer complaints.
- Provide cover and support for the Quality Manager, Technical Manager and Technologists when required.
- Spend time shadowing the Head of Technical to learn their role, thus being able to support and deputise for the Head of Technical when required.
- Learn about company Internal Audit processes and get involved in undertaking internal audits to ensure compliance with regulatory and customer requirements.
- Conduct hazard analysis to determine which hazards must be controlled to achieve food safety, as part of the HACCP team.
- Review Product Specifications and Label Specifications, providing expert analytical advice to colleagues to ensure compliance.
This role may appeal to an individual who is Lab based but would like to expand their experience into the Food and Drink Manufacturing sector, and progress to Technical Manager. The business is happy to invest time in someone to train them up in BRC, HACCP, Audits, as long as they have core skills in Analytical Chemistry, HPLC, Validation, Mass Spectrometry, Volumetric Measurements etc.
