Electrical Design Engineer

  • £45,000 pa, plus yearly bonus
  • Located: St. Neots area (Cambridgeshire/Bedfordshire).
  • Own transportation is required due to the company location.
  • Permanent Position.
  • 40 hours per week: Monday-Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm.

Established leader in the design and manufacturing of cutting-edge processing equipment and solutions for the food processing and packaging industry are looking for a talented Electrical Design Engineer to join their design team and contribute to the continued success of their advanced solutions by providing high-quality products to their clients worldwide.

As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and optimising electrical systems and components for our range of processing and packaging equipment. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, software developers, and project managers, to ensure that our solutions meet performance, safety, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop electrical systems for processing and packaging equipment, including control panels, wiring layouts and electrical schematics.
  • Generate detailed electrical drawings and documentation using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, EPLAN).
  • PLC/HMI selection in conjunction with the Software department.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems into mechanical and software designs.
  • Conduct electrical testing and troubleshooting during product development and production phases.
  • Ensure electrical designs meet all relevant legislation/standards specific to the project. For example, BS7671, IEC 60204, ISO 13849, UL508A, NFPA79, AS3000, etc.
  • Work with suppliers and vendors to source electrical components and manage project time-lines.
  • Participate in design reviews, project meetings, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing teams, field service technicians, and customers.
  • Work with low voltage single and three phase AC systems, ranging from 110V - 600V.
  • Work with extra low voltage DC systems, typically 24V.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Qualified to HNC/HND standard or above preferably in an electrical engineering related subject.
  • Proven experience in electrical design, preferably within the food / processing or packaging industry.
  • Practical electrical wiring experience.
  • Mechanical experience would also be beneficial.
  • Previous electrical CAD software and electrical design tools experience g., AutoCAD, EPLAN (Eplan Pro Panel is beneficial).
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, including power distribution, PLCs, HMIs, and motor control.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with automation and control systems.
  • Knowledge of PLC hardware and software such as, Mitsubishi, Allen Bradley & Siemens.
  • Knowledge of Industrial networking systems such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP, RS282, RS485, etc.
