Job Description
We are seeking a strategic and commercially astute Financial Controller to join our dynamic technology company. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will oversee the financial health of the business, lead the finance team, and act as the key liaison with our group parent company. It will include elements of business partnering, planning & analysis.
This is a pivotal role, contributing to the strategic direction and operational efficiency of the company while ensuring compliance with group reporting requirements and financial regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for full P&L, balance sheet and cash flow reporting for the company. Maintaining an appropriate control environment; Adhering to group policies and procedures.
- Oversee the preparation of statutory accounts, ensuring compliance with UK financial regulations and corporate governance standards.
- Develop and implement financial strategies that align with company objectives and group policies.
- Prepare and present detailed financial reports, budgets, and forecasts to the MD and the group parent company to tight timescales.
- Manage the finance team, ensuring efficient and accurate operations, including management accounts, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, bank reconciliation, asset management and financial analysis.
- Provide financial insights and support to assist the MD in decision-making and strategic planning.
- Manage cash flow and working capital and supporting foreign exchange (FX) strategy from the group parent company.
- Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors for annual audits and tax compliance.
- Develop financial models to assess business performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Liaise with the group parent company to ensure alignment on reporting, compliance, and strategic initiatives.
- Drive efficiency in financial systems and processes, ensuring robust internal controls are in place.
- Lead risk management activities, including insurance, legal compliance, and mitigation strategies.
- Support the board on investment opportunities, key projects and new product lines.
- Drive risk management locally in conjunction with the group, aligned to group corporate governance & risk management policies.
Requirements
Essential
- ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified with at least 3-5 years of post-qualification experience.
- Proven track record as a senior financial leader in a SME sized company or similar environment.
- Strong understanding of UK GAAP, financial regulations, and statutory requirements.
- Experience liaising with group-level parent companies, including consolidated reporting.
- Good commercial experience of manufacturing businesses
- Excellent analytical and financial modelling skills.
- Effective communicator with the ability to present complex financial data to non-financial stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and driving business growth.
- Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
Desirable
- Experience in the company’s industry sector or a manufacturing company dealing with MRP processes.
- Knowledge of group reporting frameworks.
- Exposure to ERP implementation or optimisation projects.
- Experience of Oracle FCC, Business Central, PowerBI and other Microsoft Dynamics applications.
