Financial Controller

We are seeking a Financial Controller to oversee all financial operations within a European organisation based in Stoke. The Financial Controller will work closely with the Finance Director to maintain and improve financial systems, ensure compliance with statutory regulations, and support business development through robust financial management and strategic insights.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Supervise the preparation of month-end accounts and VAT returns.
  • Ensure the completion of bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Manage the audit process and liaise with external auditors.
  • Oversee the preparation of year-end statutory accounts.
  • Manage, mentor, and motivate the Finance team.
  • Handle budgeting, forecasting, and budget analysis.
  • Contribute to the financial strategy and decision-making process.
  • Provide timely and accurate financial statements, analyses, reports, and recommendations.
  • Ensure robust financial systems and processes are in place and optimised.
  • Oversee tax and compliance issues.
  • Develop forecasting models (P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow).
  • Take ownership of credit management and all related reporting.
  • Develop and maintain detailed costing and pricing models for all key services and expenditures.
  • Manage and foster key relationships with financial partners, institutions, auditors, and other external stakeholders.
  • Represent the business in financial and business meetings as required.
  • Implement modern finance technologies and practices to optimise efficiency and support growth.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Professionally qualified with a minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Financial Controller
  • Strong business acumen and understanding of financial issues in businesses with a minimum £50 million turnover.
  • Experience in practice before moving to industry
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Strong IT and people-management skills, preferably with experience in Sage Intacct and/or systems upgrades.
