A new opportunity has emerged for a Scientist to join a specialised research team within an advanced technology organisation based in Staffordshire. This role is within the Underwater Measurement Systems division, focusing on cutting-edge research and development. Reporting to the Research Team Leader, the successful candidate will play a crucial role in a team of experts working on innovative solutions.

The position involves conducting studies and contributing to the development of software and system designs related to maritime technologies, particularly in underwater measurement systems and vessel-related electromagnetic fields. The role requires collaboration with colleagues to create technical solutions that meet complex project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will contribute to a variety of scientific, modeling, and programming tasks throughout project lifecycles, from initial proposals to final delivery. Areas of focus may include:

  • Modeling of magnetic and electric sources
  • Electromagnetic field behavior in different media
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) & Boundary Element Analysis (BEA)
  • Analysis of underwater signatures (electromagnetic, acoustic, pressure, seismic)
  • Numerical and optimisation techniques
  • Advanced control theory

Personal Attributes

  • A minimum of a degree in a scientific or mathematical discipline, preferably in physics or mathematics
  • Postgraduate qualifications or relevant experience in a physics or mathematical research environment are advantageous
  • Strong programming skills, with experience in C++ being beneficial
  • Experience in one or more of the following is desirable: electromagnetic modeling, Vector Fields FEA, COMSOL, MATLAB/Simulink
  • Strong written communication and report writing abilities
  • Ideally, experience in delivering presentations or training, with confidence in client-facing interactions
  • Some travel may be required, including field research and system trials in the UK and internationally

Security Clearance:The successful candidate must meet the necessary criteria to obtain security vetting clearance required for the role.
