Our client is a well regarded FTSE listed business operating within the Construction industry across the UK.

As a result of Secondment, FRS have been enlisted to assist with the recruitment of a Qualified Accountant to join one of their Midlands business units as Finance Manager / Financial Controller (No 2 in Region) on a 12 Month Temporary or Fixed Term contract basis.

You will be joining a Business Unit of around £100m T/O and £18m operating profit to operate as the No 2 in Finance supporting a great Finance Director in the below

  • Support the FD, providing sound financial advice and guidance around the financial performance of the business.
  • Compile a challenging but realistic budget and 3-year business plan, consisting of a P&L, CF and BS. Ensure reliable, sound and scientific assumptions of turnover, operating profit, margin, cash, land spend, overheads and ROCE all considered.
  • Carry out balance sheet reviews and challenging the teams on balances and journals posted.
  • Prepare a weekly cashflow forecast, assessing actual movements and variances along with a 6 weekly view of cash.
  • Seeking opportunities to maximise cash and profit to help the business achieve beyond budgeted targets.
  • Carry out investment reviews on bulk sale opportunities during a challenging market, assessing site margin and cash impact with a detailed analysis. Understand prelim savings and cashflow arrangement for a thorough analysis.
  • Challenge the wider teams to develop a reliable forecast and push for profit and cash maximisation.
  • Provide feedback on sales/build movements which can impact forecast and challenge the wider team on assumptions.
  • Monitor cost review pack movements which impact margin.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and management of the COINS plot database.
  • Working with the commercial and operational teams and challenge to drive performance improvements.
  • Responsible for overseeing the preparation of the Management Accounts with a 3 year rolling forecast.
  • Business partner with the directors and deputising for the FD

This position can be recruited on either a Temporary or FTC basis and is expected to run for a period of at least 12 months with possible extension.Due to the size and dynamic nature of this Group, opportunities to move into other areas BU across the business may be offered for those wanting a longer term / permanent opportunity

The ideal candidate will be formally qualified (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) and ideally have at least 2-3 years PQEExperience operating as Finance Manager / Financial Controller / No 2 to a Finance Director is desirable to include staff leadership and supervision of a small team however those operating at Management Accountant / Divisional Accountant level seeking a step up will be considered.Whilst Formal Qualification is desirable, those with demonstrated experience gained within a similar role within the Construction / House Building Industry will be considered.Experience of Joint Venture Accounting is also desirable but not essential.

A good level of IT literacy to include MS Excel for reporting / analysis is essential, experience of COINS desirable.
