JR257: Shift Maintenance EngineerLocation: Hixon, StaffordSalary: £18 - £19 per hourOverview:First Military Recruitment is currently seeking a Shift Maintenance Engineer on behalf of one of our clients.Our client encourages applications from ex-military personnel, but all candidates will be given due consideration.Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, lead, and assist a team of maintenance operatives during the shift, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and according to schedule. Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and excellence in maintenance practices within the shift team.
  • Implement the maintenance strategy developed by the Maintenance/Engineering Manager to ensure the reliability and functionality of critical machinery and equipment during operations.
  • Coordinate closely with other departments to plan maintenance activities, minimize disruptions, and optimize production efficiency during shifts.
  • Manage inventory levels of maintenance supplies during the shift and initiate reordering of maintenance supplies as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, company policies, and regulations related to maintenance activities during operations.
  • Oversee the usage and management of fuels, lubricants, and other fluids during operations, implementing cost-effective strategies.
  • Identify opportunities for process and equipment improvements during operations and implement solutions to enhance overall operational efficiency.
  • Keep accurate records of maintenance activities and equipment service histories during the shift, updating MAPCON where necessary.
  • Inspect and monitor work areas, examine tools and equipment, and oversee works to prevent, detect, and correct unsafe conditions or violations of procedures and safety rules.
  • Carry out critical preventative and breakdown maintenance when needed.
  • Ensure a daily handover is carried out to the next Shift Foreman.
  • Perform any other duties as required that fall within your capability.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Maintenance Supervisor with a strong working knowledge of facilities, machines, and equipment. Experience within a heavy industry such as foundry, recycling, or quarry and aggregates sectors. (Preferable)
  • Relevant qualifications in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Ability to effectively plan, organise, and prioritise projects, ensuring maintenance activities align with operational goals.
  • Strong team player with proven leadership and motivational abilities, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Positive and professional attitude, with an approachable demeanour and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with an agile approach to getting things done; flexible and adaptable to changing operational needs.
  • Independent judgment and decision-making capabilities, ensuring efficient and effective maintenance operations.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills, with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and guidance.
