Lead Mechanical Design Engineer Permanent Full-TimeSalary - Negotiable Location - In office, Burton-on-TrentWe're excited to be working with a design & build company that has nearly half a century of expertise in creating bespoke electrical testing equipment across seven continents.Due to a continuously growing order book, they are now seeking a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer, who is an expert SolidWorks user with product data management (PDM) knowledge, to join their team of professionals. You will be responsible for managing a team of up to seven, and for the planning, direction, and delivery of all design activities, ensuring they meet agreed time, cost, and quality requirements.Responsibilities, but are not limited to

  • Lead the team to ensure the delivery of system and subsystem requirements
  • Conduct day-to-day project and design reviews to achieve delivery milestones
  • Collaborate with the Electrical Lead to meet requirements
  • Verify mechanical calculations and specifications and complete the design
  • Perform design verification and checks
  • Propose mechanical designs for projects
  • Develop and lead ongoing design reviews with the engineering team
  • Create mechanical specifications and processes to achieve "right first time" at release
  • Promote continuous professional development, supplier engagement, and future technology applications
  • Foster a culture of safe, efficient workspace
  • Oversee design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA) to ensure requirements are met

Experiences required

  • Competent SolidWorks designer with proven professional experience
  • Professional experience using PDM systems such as SolidWorks PDM, Autodesk Vault, PTC Windchill, Siemens Teamcenter, or Dassault Systèmes ENOVIA
  • Extensive experience in mechanical design
  • Expertise in Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA)
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in an engineering discipline
  • Experience in leading, mentoring, managing, or coordinating teams
