Red Snapper Recruitment are recruiting for a Police Support Volunteers Coordinator.

Location - Staffordshire

Contract Length - 12 months (with possible extension)

Rate of Pay - £14.80 per hour PAYE & £18.88 Umbrella per hour

Work Hours - Full time, 37 hours per week, office hours

Responsibility for the co-ordination of Police Support Volunteers within Staffordshire Police and development of Employer Supported Policing (ESP). Role includes wider support for the Citizens in Policing portfolio, including Specials and Cadets. Responsible for the co-ordination, recruitment, development and retention of PSV’s. The post holder will identify where volunteers can be utilised by working with stakeholders as well as developing the volunteer service force wide by increasing the number of volunteers and variety of volunteering opportunities.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Providing a point of contact for colleagues, members of the public and partners regarding the recruitment and development of Police Support Volunteers, Cadets and Special Constables.
  • Development of Employer Supported Policing, ensuring Staffordshire Police follow national guidance. Including making sure volunteers record their employer details on Dutysheet and promote ESP with companies not signed up.
  • Provide support to the Citizens in Policing portfolio by attending, contributing and taking minutes at meetings. Representing the force at regional and national meetings.
  • Providing a point of contact for daily queries from Volunteers around their respective areas of work, disseminating relevant information and networking within our organisation to collate information and provide concise responses/solutions to queries.
  • Developing and increasing the number of volunteer roles within force. Following the force process for creating new volunteer roles, including liaison with staff associations and the production of relevant paperwork for sign off.
  • Finding innovative ways to recruit new volunteers that are representative of our communities.
  • Working alongside other agencies at events and meetings whilst representing Staffordshire Police.
  • Attending events to promote volunteer opportunities within Staffordshire Police.
  • Liaising with colleagues from other forces to develop the forces approach to volunteers and ESP.
  • Organising in-house events such as familiarisation sessions and award/ celebration events. Collating good work/ award nominations.
  • Daily tasks include the distribution of incoming/outgoing post, managing emails, arranging vetting/DBS checks for volunteers and operating the Duty Sheet system to input/monitor details and contribution of volunteers.
  • Keeping detailed reports on the movement of Police Support Volunteers, ensuring they have the correct equipment and risk assessments.
  • Responsible for the production of local statistics, responding to benchmarking requests relating to Volunteers as well as reporting on performance outcomes.
  • Collating information/ good news stories and highlighting them with the Force Communications department to be utilised on social media. Producing information/ coordination for the volunteers’ week campaign.
  • Recruiting volunteers including managing application processes, vetting, interview processes and references.
  • Managing safeguarding concerns for volunteers, including discussing with line managers, the dedicated safeguarding lead in force and submitting any relevant referrals.
  • Administering the process for termination of a volunteering opportunity including drafting of letter to the volunteer.
  • Supporting partner agencies/ events by co-ordinating the use of volunteers.
  • Reviewing PSV Policy annually and ensuring it is up to date.

Person Specification

  • Must be able to demonstrate motivation, commitment and perseverance to overcome obstacles in order to achieve goals and results and to take personal responsibility for owning actions and for sorting out issues or problems that arise
  • Experience of working to multiple deadlines and delivering results through effective planning and organising of your work demonstrated by the ability to prioritise your own time and workload, working methodically, accurately and with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrate a track record of using excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain working relationships with a diverse range of people operating at all levels
  • Experience of preparing and presenting information to a diverse audience
  • Demonstrate the ability to act on their own initiative, working calmly and accurately under pressure and displaying attention to detail
  • Demonstrate a good standard of computer literacy, evidencing previous experience of Microsoft Office suite and the use of databases
  • Experience of dealing with sensitive and confidential material including knowledge of the Data Protection Act, GDPR and MOPI
  • Experience of problem solving and decision making demonstrating the ability to identify the issue(s), use information effectively to consider the options and implement the solution
  • Must own a car for business use or have a drivers license
