Infinity Employment are seeking an Assistant Customs Manager to join our industry leading client, specialising in Sea Freight Logistics. The meticulous and extremely well organised team member will work closely with the Customs Manager to ensure compliance with customs regulations and facilitate the smooth movement of goods across international borders. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of customs procedures, excellent communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility to travel between sites is key and the role can be Remote / hybrid working. £40,000 - Open to negotiation depending on skill set.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Customs Compliance: Assist in ensuring compliance with customs laws and regulations, including tariff classifications, valuation, country of origin determination, and customs documentation.
  • Import/Export Documentation: Prepare and review import/export documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, and certificates of origin.
  • Customs Clearance: Coordinate with customs brokers and freight forwarders to facilitate the clearance of goods through customs efficiently.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate potential customs compliance risks, including issues related to customs audits, penalties, and duty drawbacks.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders, customs authorities, and external partners to resolve customs-related issues and ensure timely delivery of goods.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency gains within the customs compliance function.
  • Training and Development: Provide training and support to internal teams on customs compliance requirements and procedures.

Essential experience:

  • Previous experience in customs compliance, import/export operations, or logistics preferred.
  • Strong understanding of customs regulations and procedures.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of customs brokerage software (e.g., Descartes, Integration Point) is a plus.
  • Professional certification in customs compliance (e.g., Certified Customs Specialist) is desirable.

Desirable:

  • Good understanding of customs systems, preferably Descartes, Conex, Boxtop.
  • 5 years’ experience in a customs environment.
  • Experience using CDS.
