£43,251 plus shift allowance of £6,100
Rising to £48,733 plus shift allowance once competent (typically within a year)
Rail Maintenance Technician Working Hours:
2 day shifts, 2 night shifts, followed by 4 days off
12-hour shifts (7 AM - 7 PM and 7 PM - 7 AM)

Rail Maintenance Technician Key Responsibilities:Maintain and service Heathrow’s fleet of trains, Pods, and Track Transit System (TTS).
Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults.
Assist in commissioning a new fleet of passenger trains and phasing out older stock.
Keep accurate records of maintenance history to meet regulatory requirements.
Identify areas for improvement and implement meaningful changes.
Ensure compliance with safety standards, proactively reducing risks and hazards.
NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a recognised engineering discipline.
Strong mechanical skills in a practical working environment.
Demonstrable problem-solving and analytical abilities.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, complex environment.
Excellent communication skills.
For qualifications achieved after 1992: Must hold an NVQ Level 3 or Apprenticeship in one of the following:
Maintenance Technician
Mechanical Engineering
Mechatronics Engineering
Electrical Engineering
Electronic Engineering
For qualifications achieved before 1992: We accept:
Recognised indentured apprenticeships (EITB, CITB, JIB).
City & Guilds Levels 1 and 2 or equivalent engineering training.
J Segment Craft Certificate, TR21 Technician Certificate, or equivalent Level 3/4 qualifications from EITB, SEMTA, EnTRA, or EAL.
JIB, CITB, or EURS Gold Card or equivalent Level 3 skills card in the core disciplines above.
City & Guilds Level 3 in Electrical Installation.
