Reed Finance are pleased to be supporting a successful West Essex based business in their search for a new Financial Controller to drive financial performance and support growth through proactive financial management and robust business support.

As a key member of the Divisional Management Teams, this hands-on leadership role involves managing a small team and collaborating cross-functionally to deliver accurate, timely, and reliable financial information to support decision-making processes.

Day to Day of the role:

  • Manage the accounts team, ensuring high standards in daily financial activities.
  • Deliver monthly accounts from nominal ledger to trial balance level for two divisions.
  • Prepare, analyse, and interpret monthly management accounts to provide actionable insights.
  • Drive improvements in profitability and working capital efficiency.
  • Produce annual statutory accounts, including corporation tax computations.
  • Lead the group external statutory audits.
  • Ensure compliance with all HMRC and legislative requirements.
  • Conduct sales, gross margin, labour utilisation, and cost base reviews.
  • Manage contract, WIP, and debtor reviews for robust financial performance.
  • Perform monthly payroll reviews and manage fixed asset audits and inventory counts.
  • Critically review and challenge operational results for accuracy and completeness.
  • Advise and support Management Teams in implementing effective financial procedures and systems.
  • Collaborate with Management Teams to develop annual targets and forecasting processes.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Qualified Accountant or equivalent with a minimum of 4 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Proficient in financial and management accounting with a solid understanding of accounting principles, standards, and techniques.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Analytically minded with strong business judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced Excel and Power BI skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of an ERP system within a manufacturing, MRO, or complex environment.
  • Experience with Sage or similar General Ledger systems.
  • Beneficial to have experience in ERP and/or General Ledger system implementations.
