Job Opportunity: Principal CAD Technician - Substations (Remote, UK)

About the Company

We are a leading company in the energy services sector, specializing in electrical transmission and substation construction. We are seeking an experienced Principal CAD Technician - Substations to join our Substation Design team, supporting our Electrical Transmission OHL (Overhead Line) and Substation projects with a focus on structural engineering. This is a remote role, open to candidates across the UK.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and coordinate design projects, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery.
• Develop and maintain policy, processes, and training manuals for all substation CAD outputs.
• Ensure the quality of all substation CAD deliverables.
• Provide technical 2D and 3D CAD drawing services, including steelwork detailing, OHL assets, conductor fittings, and maps.
• Train and support other team members in the delivery of substation CAD outputs.
• Collaborate with internal and external teams for effective project delivery.
• Attend and contribute to regular project briefings, team meetings, and design reviews.
• Assist in the maintenance of CAD technical libraries and the development of external CAD resources.
• Liaise with clients to provide input on new standards and codes of practice.
• Manage a team of CAD technicians, providing leadership and oversight in the production of high-quality drawings.
• Ensure efficient resource allocation and workload management within the CAD team.
• Promote company values and ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.

Skills, Experience & Management Expertise Required:

• Significant experience in producing HV substation CAD/BIM outputs for the UK industry.
• Proficient in Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, and other relevant CAD software.
• Proven management experience in leading a team, including task delegation and project coordination.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills, with the ability to train and mentor others.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
