We are recruiting for a temporary Lettings Officer for a local authority based in Stevenage.

This role is start immediately and will run until the end of May 2025.

This position is office based and will be full-time working 37 hours a week: Monday to Friday.

The main purpose of this position is to ensure that the vacant properties are let in accordance and within agreed processes. To assist customers with housing needs and ongoing advice and direct to other colleagues or organisations with help with housing support.

Key tasks & responsibilities:

  • To manage the advertising and allocation process of properties.
  • To be responsible for the banding of housing register applications
  • To verify applicants eligibility for housing , which could include investigations around fraud, child residency and home ownership.
  • Identify suitable adapted properties for people needing ads or adaptations in their present home.
  • To arrange multiple viewings of properties
  • To interview applicants in their homes or elsewhere to assess housing needs and make appropriate referrals around suspected neglect or environment health.
  • To undertake suitable assessments on properties.
  • To maintain a current knowledge of alternative housing
  • Manage an ongoing caseload of meeting the needs of clients, especially the vulnerable with more complex needs.
  • To maintain appropriate and accurate records to ensure every case has a clear audit trial.
  • To investigate and resolve complaints and appeals.
  • Assist in the preparation of court papers when required.
  • To maintain effective working relationships with other teams
  • To protect the authorities financial interests by identifying any arrears or debts.
  • To work closely with the Council Tax and Housing Benefits teams
  • Plus, many other ad hoc duties associated with this role and responsibilities.

Person Specification:

  • Working knowledge of legislation - homelessness and immigration
  • Excellent communication skills - able to remain clam and confident when dealing with challenging situations.
  • Good organisations skills and the ability to manage own workload within agreed targets.
  • Ability to evaluate complex matters, policies and procedures
  • Resilience to deal with complex and challenging cases.
  • Customer focused
  • Ability to travel to other locations in the area
  • Full UK driving licence
