Role

The Optical Integration Engineer will be responsible for the design, manufacturing, and testing of optical payloads within the Defence and Space Optical Instruments division. This role involves assembly, integration, alignment, and testing of optical systems in clean room environments and qualification sites, ensuring adherence to quality, time, and cost objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Define and prepare optical setups for alignment and performance testing of optical instruments.
  • Develop optical test aids and specify Optical Ground Support Equipment (OGSE), including procurement and validation.
  • Write and define optical procedures, post-processing protocols for testing activities and preparation of comprehensive test reports.
  • Complete traceability documentation and report anomalies or deviations encountered during testing.
  • Ensure precise optical alignment and integration of payloads.
  • Conduct thorough optical performance evaluations using industry-standard tools.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to meet project milestones.
  • Maintain compliance with aerospace industry standards and clean room protocols.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to optical integration and testing.
  • Provide feedback on lessons learned and propose improvements related to safety, quality, planning, and cost.

Required Experience

  • Previous experience in optical integration and testing within the aerospace industry, particularly in space projects.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment, with experience in leading small teams.
  • Familiarity with the preparation of optical test procedures and documentation.
  • Mandatory certification: Electrical B1V.
  • Experience in defining and procuring optical test aids and OGSE is highly desirable.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of geometric and physical optics, including proficiency with theodolites, laser trackers, and other optical measurement tools.
  • Experience in optical alignment and testing procedures, with a good understanding of wavefront error (WFE) analysis.
  • Proficient in data processing and numerical analysis related to optical measurements.
  • Intermediate level of English for effective communication and documentation.
  • Familiarity with metrology and measurement uncertainty principles.

Required Education
Degree in Optical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
