Qualified Speech and Language Therapist - Special School

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT) to join a special school in Hertfordshire, supporting children and young people with additional needs. This nurturing environment provides tailored education and therapy, ensuring every student has the support they need to develop essential communication and life skills.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering specialist speech, language, and communication support, working closely with teachers, support staff, and external professionals to create meaningful progress for students. The role will involve 1:1 and small-group interventions, helping pupils build confidence, independence, and functional communication abilities in a structured and engaging setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and deliver individualised speech and language therapy interventions through 1:1 and small-group sessions.

  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and external agencies to provide integrated and holistic communication support.

  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance functional communication, social interaction, and everyday life skills.

  • Contribute to and review EHCP targets, ensuring therapy aligns with each student’s needs and progress.

  • Provide training and guidance to school staff, embedding effective speech and language strategies across the curriculum.

  • Create a supportive and inclusive environment, empowering students to develop their communication skills with confidence.

Requirements:

  • A recognised Speech and Language Therapy qualification (Degree or MSc in SaLT).

  • HCPC and RCSLT registration (essential).

  • Experience working with children and young people with SEND, ideally within a special school setting.

  • A strong understanding of AAC, social communication strategies, and language development.

  • A compassionate, adaptable, and proactive approach to supporting students.
