Introduction:My client is seeking a passionate, dynamic, and dedicated Food Technology Teacher to join our vibrant teaching team in Stevenage. The ideal candidate will inspire and educate students in the art and science of food preparation, nutrition, and sustainability, preparing them for both practical and academic success. As a Food Tech Teacher, you will play a key role in developing students' skills in the kitchen, teaching them about food science, health and safety, and promoting healthy eating habits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching & Curriculum Delivery:
    • Plan, deliver, and assess lessons in Food Technology in line with the school's curriculum.
    • Teach students the fundamentals of food preparation, cooking techniques, nutrition, food safety, and hygiene.
    • Provide engaging, hands-on practical lessons that encourage creativity and problem-solving in the kitchen.
    • Develop lessons that integrate the theory of food science with practical application.
  • Assessment & Feedback:
    • Assess and evaluate students progress through a variety of methods (e.g., practical exams, written tests, coursework).
    • Provide constructive feedback to students and offer guidance on how they can improve.
    • Monitor and track student achievements, maintaining accurate records.
  • Classroom Management & Student Engagement:
    • Foster a positive and safe learning environment during both theoretical and practical lessons.
    • Encourage a culture of respect, responsibility, and collaboration among students.
    • Address diverse learning needs and provide support to students with different abilities.
  • Health & Safety:
    • Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, including safe food handling, equipment use, and kitchen cleanliness.
    • Maintain a safe, organised, and hygienic teaching environment.
    • Supervise students during practical lessons to ensure safety protocols are followed.
  • Curriculum Development:
    • Contribute to the development and review of the Food Technology curriculum.
    • Stay current with advancements in food technology, trends, and best practices to ensure the curriculum remains relevant and up to date.
  • Collaboration & Professional Development:
    • Work closely with other teaching staff to promote cross-curricular learning and student development.
    • Attend school meetings, staff training, and professional development opportunities to enhance teaching methods and personal knowledge.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Food Technology, Home Economics, or a related field (required).
  • Teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or equivalent) (required).
  • Previous teaching experience in Food Technology or a similar subject (preferred).
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations, kitchen equipment, and food science.
  • A passion for educating students and inspiring a love of cooking, nutrition, and sustainable food practices.
