Astute's Power Team is partnered with a market-leading Energy company, to recruit for a Functional Safety Engineer to work at their site in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, and travel to other sites when required.

Functional Safety Engineer role comes with a basic salary of up to 60,000 + bonus + car/car allowance + other excellent benefits.

Responsibilities and duties

Reporting to the Technical Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing expertise and direction to the development of functional safety management for the business
  • Provide Electrical, Control and Instrumentation (EC&I) support to site projects when required
  • Support COMAH activities such as intervention visits and safety report development
  • Ensure audits are carried out to cover all aspects of functional safety
  • Support functional safety/process safety competency development
  • Conduct hazard study reports when required such as HAZID, HAZIP, LOPA and PHA



Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • Ideally have a HNC minimum qualification in a relevant engineering discipline such as Electrical/Controls and Instrumentation
  • TUV Functional Safey Engineering qualification



Personal skills, prior experience and knowledge

The Functional Safety Engineer would suit somebody who has:

  • Prior experience working in heavy industrial environments such as COMAH sites, Power Generation, Oil & Gas, etc.
  • Experience in management of functional safety lifecycle for safety instrumented systems
  • Prior experience in leading hazard identification and risk assessments (PHA, HAZID, HAZOP and LOPA)
  • Good stakeholder relationship management both internally and externally
