Our high technology client are seeking a Fibre Component Development Scientist from an applied research background to join their Fibre Technology Team.

Job Purpose:
This role will drive the optical development of next generation fibre laser products through the full product development lifecycle, ensuring the requirements of all stakeholders are met, including other product development functions, product marketing and introduction into manufacturing. This role involves interaction across many functions within the company, and with significant influence on the successful launch of new products to market.

Key Areas of Responsibility:
Development of innovative fibre laser components as part of the product development team in conjunction with technology development and manufacturing groups.
Development of prototype lab demonstrators and product evaluation in lasers
Collaboration with other members of a multi-disciplinary project team
Optical component design, development, and qualification, including but not limited to, High power signal combiners, Optical resonators and mode strippers and the associated build processes of splicing, tapering, potting/recoating, and packaging.
Design and execution of the verification and validation requirements for new product developments
Identification and management of project risks
Create and maintain project documentation, including transfer of new products, test requirements and processes, from development to manufacturing.
Reporting of project progress to the project or management teams

Qualifications:
Ideally a PhD or Masters qualification related to lasers / fibre optics.
Alternatively, a Bachelor or Masters Degree in a related subject area (Physics, Engineering, photonics, materials) coupled with relevant experience in industrial laser, optics or similar hi-tech field.

Personal Profile:
Must enjoy hands-on optical lab work, experimentation and design
Ability to work across multiple tasks methodically and efficiently and meet committed timescales
Has the drive and initiative to manage their own workload, and the adaptability to be flexible, prioritise and deliver against deadlines and changes in priorities with minimal supervision.
Happy to work in a dynamic environment and adaptable to changes in priorities.
Ability to integrate into multidisciplinary and cross-functional teams.
Good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively at all levels.
Hands-on with creative approach to problem solving and the ability to translate engineering requests into working solutions.
Self-starter with good interpersonal skills and a strong execution-oriented approach
Must be diligent, focused and thorough, taking personal pride in their work and achievements
