Secondary School Teaching Assistant - SEMH Needs Stockport Prospero teaching are working with a Special Needs School in Stockport, the school deals with students with complex needs, behavioural challenges and mental health issues. The school cater for pupils who have an educational plan to receive their education in a specialist provision, due to their learning needs. The school take pupils who have been identified that mainstream education isnt the right setting for them. The pupils are age 11-16 years old KS3/4 secondary all with EHCP plans and additional needs. The pupils have usually experienced some form of trauma, neglect or chaotic home life or all of these things. Your role is to build a connection with the young people and act and a mentor and role model for the students. Due to the barriers the pupils have in the classroom, the role will entail forging strong relationships with pupils. The role will see you using lots of mentoring skills (similar to that used in sports, drama, counselling) to help the individual engage with the school. You will support the pupil in the classroom and out of the classroom on a more vocational basis. The position is open to all experienced and those who have experience working in an SEN School previously, and a strong background in mentoring children and young adults. Depending on performance, the school would look at either extending the contract or offering a permanent position.
