My client are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Electrical Design Engineer to join their growing team. You will be part of a team of skilled engineers providing solutions for a multitude of manufacturing industries. The company, design, manufacture and install a wide range of complex automated systems using the very latest robotics, servo, PLC and vision systems combined with innovative design to deliver the full product life cycle.

TITLE: Electrical Design Engineer

REPORTING TO: Engineering Manager

SALARY: 45 - 55k

CORE HOURS: 38 (phone number removed) Mon-Thu, 8.00-1.00 Fri) Flexible

HOLIDAYS: 25 + Public & Bank

THE ROLE

As Electrical Design Engineer you will be working alongside mechanical design and controls engineers to design bespoke automation machinery. You will be utilising your skills and experience to comply with all relevant UK and international standards, creating required technical documentation including functional design specifications, bill of materials and electrical drawings.

You will also play a key role in departmental and company continuous improvements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Determine customer/process requirements from discussions and technical documentation.
  • Produce customer sign off and technical documentation such as functional design specifications and system manuals.
  • Produce accurate, functional and cost-effective electrical system designs using EPLAN software.
  • Produce accurate 2D layout drawings for electrical panel build and system IO layout to convey appropriate installation information.
  • Liaise with suppliers to determine suitable component selection, to fit function, cost and schedule.
  • Produce accurate bills of materials, suitable for component procurement, spare parts lists and installation records.
  • Liaise with mechanical design and controls engineers to determine suitable system requirements.
  • Support the machine commissioning activities in collaboration with the commissioning team to help ensure a successful FAT & SAT.
  • Communicate accurate project status to the project leads, enabling pro-active planning.
  • Alongside the wider design team produce required technical documentation complying with UK and international standards and machinery directive, low voltage directive, electromagnetic compatibility directive, including risk assessments and machinery manuals.
  • Provide occasional site support for customer meetings, projects scoping and SAT activities
  • Carry out design calculations either by hand or using software to verifying suitability and performance.
  • Participate and present in design reviews.
  • Collaborate with wider design teams and departments to improve functions and processes.

KEY SKILLS

  • Extensive experience with electrical design software. Preferably EPLAN.
  • Knowledge of Sistema.
  • Extensive experience with hand calculations for drive systems, electrical loadings and current ratings etc.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Willingness to travel (occasionally) (within the UK and abroad).
  • Excellent time management and ability to prioritise.
  • Experience in bespoke/special purpose machine building and design.
  • Experience with robotics and automation.
  • Experience with vision and sensing systems.
  • Preferably a history of electrical design for industries such as food, automotive, aerospace and pharmaceuticals.

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE

  • Degree/equivalent or higher in Electrical Engineering
  • HND, HNC, BTEC
