Quantity Surveyor (QS)

Permanent role - Stockport (SK1) - up to 60,000 per annum

Are you a qualified and experienced Quantity Surveyor working within the new building and housing industry? If so, we would like to hear from you!

MCG construction are currently working alongside a local contractor on a new build development project in Stockport and are seeking an experienced and qualified Quantity Surveyor to join the team.

The successful candidate will be crucial in managing project costs, ensuring that financial resources are allocated efficiently throughout the project life-cycle.

This position requires a strong understanding of construction processes and cost control methodologies, as well as excellent analytic and communication skills.

Duties include:

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for construction projects, including materials, labour, plant, and overheads.
  • Monitor project expenditures and implement cost control measures to ensure budgets are adhered to.
  • Administer change management and change controls on projects.
  • Conduct feasibility studies to assess the viability of projects from a financial perspective.
  • Liaise with the supply chain when pricing tenders and site variations.
  • Collaborate with the Design Manager, architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure accurate pricing and timely completion of projects.
  • Prepare tender documents and assist in the evaluation of bids from contractors.
  • Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions related to projects.
  • Provide regular reports on the financial status of projects to stakeholders.
  • Advise on procurement strategies and assist in contract negotiations.
  • Requirements
  • A degree in Quantity Surveying or similar is essential.
  • Proven experience in quantity surveying or cost management within the construction industry for 5 years or more.
  • Main contractor background is preferable.
  • Experience within the Residential sector is desirable.
  • MRICS or MCIOB is preferable but not essential and we can offer support on these chartership route should the successful candidate have a desire to pursue.
  • Detailed knowledge of building costs and competent at carrying out measurement / checks from drawings and specifications.
  • Strong knowledge of cost control techniques and methodologies.
  • Excellent analytic skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficient in using quantity surveying software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to liaise effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
