Special Needs Teaching Assistant - StockportHays Education are seeking a dedicated and compassionate teaching assistant to join the therapeutic provision team at an SEN school in Stockport, supporting pupils with Social and Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Emotionally Based School Avoidance (ESBA). This role will require you to assist pupils with their Maths, English and Science work, alongside engaging pupils in offsite activities including outdoor education. This role is temporary but has the potential to be extended based on performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored care and support to pupils with SEMH and ESBA
  • Foster a nurturing and inclusive learning environment
  • Demonstrate patience and understanding in challenging situations, managing behaviours such as aggression, withdrawal, or anxiety
  • Implement effective behaviour management strategies

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with pupils with SEN
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for supporting pupils with SEN
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff
  • Strong understanding of deescalation and calming techniques
  • Full UK Driver's License and access to own vehicle
