An exciting opportunity is available for a Teaching Assistant to join a fantastic team at a specialist primary and secondary school, supporting children with an autism diagnosis (ASC) and associated social and communication needs in a bespoke and nurturing environment.This school supports students aged from 7 to 16 and received an Ofsted rating 'GOOD' in 2022.

Key Responsibilities for this Teaching Assistant role:

  • Work closely with teachers and the SENCO to provide tailored support for students with autism and associated needs, ensuring their individual learning and developmental goals are met
  • Support the implementation of personalised learning plans, using a variety of approaches to engage students in their learning
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support, helping students develop key communication, social, and emotional skills
  • Foster a positive and inclusive environment where children feel safe, valued, and supported in their learning journey
  • Use structured strategies such as visual aids, sensory tools, and communication systems (e.g. PECS, Makaton) to enhance student's understanding and participation
  • Monitor and record student progress, working collaboratively with teachers and external professionals to adapt support where necessary
  • Assist in managing behaviour in a positive and proactive manner, using appropriate interventions to support emotional regulation and self-management
  • Encourage independence and self-confidence in students, promoting their well being and academic success

Essential Requirements for this Teaching Assistant role:

  • Experience working with children with autism, ideally in an educational setting
  • A caring, patient, and empathetic approach, with a strong understanding of autism spectrum conditions and associated needs
  • A proactive and flexible attitude to meet the diverse needs of students
