Join an established team in a rapidly expanding construction/engineering firm, offering full training and a structured career path.

If you’re a hard-working, enthusiastic and dedicated individual, comfortable with early starts and undertaking skilled work on professional construction sites, who would be interested in developing a career in the fire suppression/sprinkler industry, we’d love to hear from you.

What’s on offer

  • £23-26,000 starting salary, rising after initial 12 months
  • Annual company performance bonus and competitive benefits package
  • Full training provided, including professional certifications
  • Excellent career prospects (see below)

What does the job involve

This company designs, installs and services their own fire suppression systems. You will be travelling to sites and working alongside a senior engineer to assist in the installation of fire safety equipment (primarily sprinkler systems). This will involve working in construction environments to install and inspect bespoke pipework, ducting and systems according to design specifications and industry standards.

What training and career prospects are available

  • First 3 months - you’ll act as a labourer and trainee working alongside a senior engineer whilst you learn about different commercial and residential installs and systems. You’ll gain your CSCS card, whilst starting training on your Level 1 certifications, and getting to grips with working on site.
  • For the next 6 months - you’ll become more hands-on with the installation process, working as a mate or supporter of the pipe fitting and inspection process, learning to decipher CAD drawings and designs, troubleshooting specifications and interacting with customers and subcontractors.
  • Within 9-12 months - you’ll be starting to feel confident in taking responsibility for all aspects of sprinkler fitting and install, with the ability to liaise confidently with the design team and project managers to oversee basic scopes of work. After 12 months, you’ll be ready for your own van, getting out to projects independently and move into a Junior Installation Engineer role.
  • Within 2-3 years - you’ll become more adept with complex installs and commercial projects, with the prospect to move up as a Senior Engineer with your own trainee to mentor.

What skills / background do you need for this role

The short answer is none! We need the right attitude – the rest can be taught. The ideal person will be able to demonstrate: -

  • That you are reliable – this role involves early starts (the normal day is 7am – 3pm, Monday to Friday) and people being late or absent can have a huge knock-on effect for the team.
  • The ability to learn – this is a junior / trainee position after all!
  • That you want a “career move” – senior people in this industry earn good money and are in high demand. They are happy to develop your skills fully and offer you plenty of opportunities to gain expertise.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • Ability to drive and own vehicle – you won’t be driving far on a daily basis, but may need to meet up with the other engineers in the mornings so you can all travel to site together in the lead engineer’s van.
  • At the higher end of the salary bracket, some background in construction or transferrable skills would be useful

Anyone who is practically minded, wants a trade, and has a track record of being a reliable member of staff elsewhere will be considered. This is a real opportunity to take your career to the next level over the next couple of years with a company and management team that have a proven track record of doing it successfully with the other trainees in the team.
