About the Role:

Our client, a leading company in the insurance sector, is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Insurance Underwriter to join their team. This role involves managing underwriting functions and risk management on a daily basis. The primary goal is to mitigate risk, ensure accurate policy underwriting, and support staff development through auditing and referrals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and authorise referred policies
  • Evaluate and mitigate risk
  • Operate under the rules of any Delegated Authority in place
  • Conduct call audits and provide feedback
  • Complete underwriting and risk-related audits
  • Generate risk-related reports
  • Assist the business in managing risk
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date customer records
  • Collaborate efficiently with team members
  • Build relationships with insurers and identify new product opportunities
  • Identify efficiencies and improvements within systems and processes
  • Conduct quality assurance and tracking
  • Assist in business transfers in line with company strategy
  • Support learning and development across all departments
  • Ensure adherence to all protocols
  • Proactively manage self-development and learning
  • Adopt a proactive approach to challenges and provide assistance to all departments when required
  • Demonstrate commercial thinking and decision-making, including understanding loss ratios and their impact on the business

  • Thorough understanding of risk and risk mitigation
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including active listening

  • Previous experience in Customer Service, Sales, or Claims teams

Knowledge Required:

  • Understanding and application of ‘Treating Customers Fairly’ principles
  • Basic understanding of the insurance market
  • Thorough understanding of protocols
  • In-depth knowledge of products and underwriting guidelines
  • Familiarity with insurance terminology
  • Comprehensive understanding of compliance, risk, and risk mitigation
  • Commitment to continuous professional development
  • Cert CII (or working towards)
